- TRACKING SEARCH & RESCUE -

Scent discrimination tracking dogs, Search & rescue dogs (SAR) and cadaver recovery dogs Scent discrimination tracking dogs have been trained for a long time by Four Winds. Often these dogs are used in combination with patrol work and regularly and in combination with narcotics detection also.

The dogs achieve many results and are not only used to track suspects and convicts, but also to find missing children and elderly.

The scent discrimination tracking dogs are trained using their natural search drive. We do not use food to teach the dog to track, but the drive for the ball.

The dogs are trained in different environments and on different surfaces. We start with rural environments mainly grass and woodland areas, but quickly we extend to residential and work environments such as malls, parking lots and along highways. Here we train the dogs on gravel, asphalt, brick, concrete, sand and many other common surfaces. Our dogs work with a trackinh harness and are trained to search and follow the human scent. In reality, we note that if the dogs are completely trained they also use ground disturbance and air scenting to work out the track. Our training is based on results and finding a suspect or missing person as fast as possible, so the dogs are trained to use all possible resources.

Our scent discrimination tracking dogs also receive training in evidence-article-search. We train our dogs to search for articles (evidence) in a given area but also during track so the is evidence (mainly weapons, knives, etc.) is detected. The dogs are trained to passively sit or lie down if the item is found.

SAR dogs, or Search & Rescue dogs have been trained at Four Winds since a short time. The demand for this type of dogs has increased dramatically especially in disaster and war zones. The dogs are trained in human scent. The breeds used at the time are mostly shepherds, but we recommend Labrador retriever and smaller types of hunting dogs and terriers too.

SAR dogs must be flexible, powerful and in very good condition. The area where a SAR dog must work can be reasonably passable till extremely hard passable. Our dogs are trained in different locations in our area. Especially the training for extremely difficult terrain and the systematic searching of this, takes a lot of training and commitment. Character of the dog must be curious and very social but with a high drive.

The dogs are trained to a indicate a person through scratching and / or barking.

The land-cadaver dogs are also trained at our training center. This type of dog is trained on the fragrance of a body. Our dogs are trained a specifically search pattern to follow and to give a passive response at lokalisation of the odor. The nose of the dog is so well developed that the dog can locate human remains that were buried for a long time.
